US Senator says end War on Drugs
US Senator Mike Gravel, who is seeking the Democraatic Party nomination for the presidency says it is time to end the war on drugs.
This is one of the more sane statements I've heard come out of candidates for the presidency. Hiliary is frightening. She's still using the tactic she and Bill worked out of seeking power by trying to steal votes from the Right. Bill intentionally supported antigay measures like the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask Don't Tell to woe the social authoritarians. Hiliary pretended that Bush's disastrous war on terror is making America safer. Obama isn't a hell of a lot better and wants to turn medical care into one giant post office run by bureaucrats. Bill Richardson is another Democrat who sounds relatively sane.
The Democrats have an opportunity here but I suspect they could well snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The radical Left elements in the party are deluded ideologues who believe that disgust over Bush means supports for socialism (it is these people Obama is trying to appeal to which is federal take over of medicine). And the Democrats still rely on these radicals as their base much the way the Republicans are saddled with the theocrats. And both parties are worse because of it.
Which ever of the two parties throws out such malignant forces first will, I believe, become the dominant party in the United States.
