Theopublican leader dies.

Rev. James Kennedy, a leader of the Christian theocracy movement and prominent figure on the Religious Right, died today. With the late Jerry Falwell he was a founder of the Moral Majority. Kennedy was a co-signer of a letter urging President Bush to invade Iraq and fought to “reclaim America for Christ”. He was an advocate of using state schools to preach creationist theology.

Kennedy was very close to Christian Reconstructionists who advocate imposing Biblical law on the United States. He often hosted the worst of this lot at his church, including Gary North and Rousas John Rushdoony. While Kennedy preached doctrines that were very similar to those of the Recostructionists he insisted he wasn’t one of them.
