If you think their public image is ugly, get behind the scenes
The public image of the Fred Phelps clan is about as ugly as one family can get. But the private image was even worse. In this presentation Nate Phelps, son of Fred, discusses the hatred that dominated his father—and still does.
The one thing I will disagree with is that Nate says his father is as hateful as the god in whom he believes. I think he has it backwards. Fred Phelps believes in a god who is as hateful as he is. His hatred comes first and he them fashions a deity in his own image. I have long contended that man is not created in the image of god but that men fashion the gods they believe in after themselves. Kind people have a kind god and cruel people have cruel gods.
Here is the full speech by Nate Phelps about his infamous father and the hatred that inspires him and his "God Hates Fags" campaign.
